Cornish Pubs in the Good Beer Guide
CALLING ALL MEMBERS OF CAMRA Kernow!
Do you want a say in what Cornish pubs go into the Good Beer Guide? Here's your opportunity to have an input into our running Beer Quality Register.
Along with other branches, Cornwall CAMRA has decided to adopt the National Beer Scoring System (NBSS), where local members submit simple records of what real ales they drink and their quality each time they go to the pub. The results then go into our beer quality register, to see if we can identify the pubs which most consistently serve good (or bad, or indifferent) beer. The ones that perform best through the year will then go forward for consideration and inspection for the next Good Beer Guide. As well as a paper-based exercise, revised in the light of experience, we are also asking for those who prefer to do it this way to submit their results on this website.
It's really quite simple. All we want you to do is record what pub you have been to, the date, the beer you drank and whether it was outstanding, good, average, poor or yuk! (click in the box). Plus any comment you might have such as 'beers all too cold', 'absolute nectar', 'better served on chips', or whatever! You can scribble the info on a scrap of paper or a beer mat in a few seconds and fill in the return when you get home, also at your leisure. The past year or two has netted us around 2600, which makes the whole thing credible with good statistical cover for many pubs, but the more the merrier - so please try to take part. We know there are some good pubs out there, but if no-one goes to them or lets us know what the beer is like, we can't credibly put them forward for GBG consideration!
We have about 730 members in Cornwall, and about 660 pubs, so if everyone sent in a few reports over the year we'd have an excellent idea as to how our pubs are performing.
So please, go to the Beer Quality Form, familiarise yourself with the layout, and start recording your ale-drinking experience every time you go to a Cornish pub. Any pub - even the dodgy ones - can change over time. And thanks, your efforts will be really appreciated.

| The Seven Stars FALMOUTH is just one of the pubs that made it into GBG2008 |
The
CAMRA Good Beer Guide year 2008 edition was launched in September. The Campaign for
Real Ale's acclaimed pub guide is now in its 35th Edition and is still the beer
drinkers' best friend. The Good
Beer Guide is the long-established pub guide which
is beloved by beer enthusiasts. The Guide contains 4500 of the top real ale pubs
in the UK including details of which beers they serve, opening hours and address
and additional information on food, amenities for families and atmosphere.
As well as being a pub guide, the book contains
details on all the country’s breweries -
over 600 of them - from
the largest companies to the smallest microbreweries. It also includes tasting
notes for the vast majority of beers brewed in the UK.
This guide is indispensable for beer lovers and includes a selection of features on beer, brewing and pubs.
You can buy the Good Beer Guide from bookshops but CAMRA makes more money which we then plough back into campaigning if you buy directly from us. The new edition is now out, and you can place your order now via the CAMRA website.
Readers should also look out for *starred* pub entries. The star symbol is used to highlight Good Beer Guide pubs which feature on the CAMRA National Inventory of pubs with interiors of outstanding heritage importance - a full list of these pubs is included in this year's Guide. As always, don't leave home without it!
